Faux leather jacket with belt: 5 ways to wear it in autumn

A faux leather belted jacket can occupy different roles within the same wardrobe. Open, it acts as a layer that reveals the outfit underneath; knotted, it creates a different silhouette and focuses attention on the waist. This versatility allows you to wear it repeatedly with jeans, wide-leg trousers, skirts, or dresses without all the combinations looking the same.

To wear it in autumn, consider the jacket's finish and the surface area next to it. A plain knit base, a simple t-shirt, or a matte dress can complement a pronounced texture. Here we propose five outfits and various ways to style the belt with the burgundy and black versions of Soho.

What the Soho design brings to an outfit

The Burgundy Soho Jacket features faux leather with a crinkled effect, a shawl collar, a tie belt, and soft shoulder pads. The texture introduces a visual detail that differs from a completely smooth finish. The lapel and blazer shape allow it to be paired with both everyday basics and dressier pieces.

The Black Soho Jacket shares those same elements in black. Choosing between the two can depend on your usual clothing: the burgundy introduces a standout color over grey, ecru, or denim, while the black provides a more continuous base with dark trousers and shoes. Neither option restricts you to just one type of footwear.

Look 1: burgundy, straight jeans, and an ecru t-shirt

Pair the burgundy jacket with mid-blue straight jeans, an ecru t-shirt, and brown ankle boots. It's a formula that leverages the contrast between the faux leather finish and the casual appearance of denim. The light t-shirt separates the two pieces and leaves a simple area next to the lapels.

You can wear the jacket open to show that central strip or tie the belt loosely without making a very bulky bow. If you decide to close it, choose a t-shirt with a hem that doesn't create a second visible band underneath, unless you are deliberately aiming for that layered effect.

A small brown bag connects with the boots and avoids introducing another color. If you prefer a more urban result, replace both with black accessories. You don't need to find a bag in the same burgundy as the jacket: the relationship between pieces can be based on the tones of the base without exactly repeating the focal color.

Look 2: black, wide-leg trousers, and fine knit

The black jacket can be paired with grey wide-leg trousers and a fine, round-neck sweater in a lighter grey. The differences in tone allow the layers to be distinguished, while the differences in surface texture add interest without adding prints. Black loafers and a structured bag complete the look.

With wide-leg trousers, try tying the belt to visually separate the upper part from the lower. There's no need to tighten it: a simple knot can suggest that division without completely changing the drape of the jacket. If you prefer to wear it open, tuck the sweater into the trousers so the base waistline remains visible.

You can also swap the grey for chocolate brown. Black and brown allow you to work with a dark palette of different nuances, as explained in our guide on how to combine chocolate brown and black. A light accessory can provide a point of contrast if desired.

Look 3: burgundy jacket and a plain midi skirt

A dark grey midi skirt, a black t-shirt, and the burgundy jacket form an outfit with two very different lengths. For footwear, choose black ankle boots that continue the dark base. The skirt can be straight or slightly flared: what changes is the amount of volume under the jacket.

If you want the skirt to remain the focal point, wear the jacket open and keep the t-shirt simple. If you are looking for a silhouette centered on the waist, tie the belt and observe how the bottom of the jacket falls over the skirt. It is not necessary for both hems to maintain a fixed distance; what matters is that you like the overall composition.

Small gold or silver earrings can accompany the look without competing with the faux leather texture. Avoid adding a second visible belt to the skirt unless it serves a specific function: two nearby waistlines can make the outfit look more fragmented than you intended.

Look 4: black over a simple dress

Try the black jacket over a plain midi dress from your wardrobe, with dark ankle boots or flats. An ecru dress creates contrast; a grey one offers a softer transition; a black one allows the different textures to do almost all the work. In each case, a single piece of jewelry can complete the look.

If the dress already has a defined waist, start by wearing the jacket open. This way its cut is visible and you don't overlap two different adjustments in the same area. If the dress is straight and plain, the tied jacket can introduce a different shape. The choice depends on the result you want, not on a rule about which garments should be cinched.

To compare this option with other types of layers, you can check what jacket to wear with a long dress. Even if the length of the dress changes, it is useful to observe how much fabric remains visible and where the main detail is located.

Look 5: an ecru base with brown accessories

For a lighter proposal, combine ecru straight trousers, a fine knit in the same tone, and the burgundy jacket. Add brown loafers and a small dark brown bag. The continuity of the base allows the color of the jacket to be read clearly and enables you to keep the accessories discreet.

If you choose the black Soho, the same base produces a greater contrast. You can pick up the black in the footwear or leave the brown shoes to introduce a less marked transition. A bright white t-shirt does not produce exactly the same effect as an ecru one: try the tones together before deciding which version you prefer.

This formula works especially well when you are looking for variety without resorting to multiple prints. The texture of the jacket, the knit, and the finish of the bag provide enough differences. The outfit holds up through the relationships between surfaces and colors, even if all the garments are plain.

How to style the belt in each combination

A flat, simple knot keeps the focus on the jacket; a larger bow adds volume in the center. Test it out in front of the mirror with the clothes you will be wearing underneath, because the amount of fabric changes the result. The ends can be left at different heights if you like a less symmetrical finish.

When wearing the jacket open, position the belt so it doesn't drag or hang loose uncontrollably. Before removing it, check how it is attached to the garment. You don't need to replace it with another belt to add variety: switching between open and tied already modifies the silhouette significantly.

One last decision: which piece should stand out?

If you want the burgundy to stand out, use a discreet base. If you prefer the black texture to be appreciated, pair it with different surfaces. If the skirt or dress is the star, open the jacket and let that garment remain visible. This simple decision organizes the rest of the outfit and makes it easier to wear Soho repeatedly with clothes you already own.
